Newsletter Week 1

Hello there [member]!

Firstly let me say thanks to everyone who turned up to our social yesterday.

We began in Bowland North Seminar Room 7 with our president Ryan giving a talk on what GALUP is doing right now, and then after some chatting we moved to Marcus Merriman Lecture Theatre to watch three episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic – The Cutie Mark Chronicles (“I can’t take any more singing”), It’s About Time (“Monitor. Everything.”) and Winter Wrap Up (“that nest needs to be condemned”).

After that we went to Furness bar, where we had the back room to ourselves for chatting, laughter and piano playing.

About time for what?!
Next Social

7pm Saturday in Bowland North SR 7, is an art social!

Creativity is a large part of the My Little Pony community, so we’re going to be doing some group drawing sessions. Funny comics, picking themes out of a hat, maybe even some how-to-draw tutorials. Whether you’re good or bad, it’s all about the taking part and having fun! (Personally I can’t draw a good pony to save my life!)

If you have ANY creative pony art, whether that’s drawings, music, music videos, plushies, sewing or ANYTHING, bring it along or show us a link to it online. It’s always cool to see what people have made, so this is your chance to do it without feeling all embarrassed.

If you can’t wait for Saturday and want to make some themed art to showcase at the meeting, this is your Artist Challenge: Draw something incorporating the GALUP logo that you see at the top of this email! It’s entirely optional, but it’d be great to have some GALUP-themed art.

The raffle for the Luna plushie is now closed. We will announce the results next week! If you already have an identical Luna plushie and you win, you can choose to not accept her and we will draw again. If you can’t make it next week and you win, we’ll reserve her for you.

Upcoming Events
We are thinking about ordering a bunch of plushies from
4de, like this Twilight here.A group order allows each individual plushie to cost less (around £20). Think about it and tell us if you’re interested.

Membership

We will be collecting membership fees over the next few weeks. It is £2 and covers all the wonderful things we have mentioned before. Allow me to repost the list from the last email:

  •     Discounts at First Age Comics in Lancaster
  •     Our comic rental service at just £5 per arc (that’s 4 issues!).
  •     International imports and bulk orders throughout the year, saving on shipping.
  •     Member’s only socials.
  •     A snazzy personalized membership card.
  •    Access to the GALUP members Facebook Group.
If you have recently become a paid member, click here to go to the GALUP members Facebook group. Try to join it and we’ll check our records and accept you.SponsorshipNext week we will be voting whether GALUP should go ahead with a possible sponsorship agreement with The Plough. We do not have concrete information about a Plough sponsorship, but they would expect us to have several meals with them over the course of the year.In return we would get money to pour into subsidising group orders of MLP stuff, buying prizes and other cool things. They have also, separate to the main deal, mentioned that we could put a Plough logo onto any society hoodies/tshirts we produce. If we did this, they would subsidise the clothes, making them cheaper for members. We will also potentially have to advertise the Plough in places like this weekly email. As we would have to fulfil our end of the bargain by hosting socials to The Plough and advertising, these are things which affect you.

As a result of this we will be taking time next Saturday to hold two votes. The first will be “Should we get sponsored by The Plough?” The second will be “Should we subsidise our hoodies?”

Only paid society members will be allowed to vote. If you are a member and will not be able to make it on Saturday, you may email us or contact me (Davey) with a postal vote.

Don’t worry if this confuses you! If you turn up on Saturday we will explain the situation for everyone who didn’t read this.

And that’s how Equestria was made,
GALUP Secretary,
Davey Blackstock
